Publishing house Springer wished us a happy New Year trough the textbook of famous Thai and Japanese hair transplant surgeons Damkerng Pathomvanich and Kenichiro Imagawa – "Hair Restoration Surgery in Asians". This book is a real gift for many thousands of hair transplant surgeons. D. Pathomvanich and K. Imagawa considered all the problematic issues of modern hair restoration surgery, even more - they gathered the methods of surgeons who had big experience of handling with baldness in Asian ethnic groups – Jerry Wong, Sungjoo Hwang, Jung-Chul Kim, Bertam Ng, etc. The work also contains interesting history of hair restoration surgery, which by the way started in Japan by Shoji Okuda, Hajime Tamura, Masao Sasakawa and Keiichi Fujita. The main part of textbook is the discussion of peculiarity of Asian ethnic groups’ scalp and hair features and following them - planning an operation and hairline design, donor harvesting, graft preparation, recipient site formation and insertion, postoperative care.
Dr.Praven Indla is taking theoretical course
The work of D. Pathomvanich and K. Imagawa is issue of the day not only because Asian ethnic groups represent the biggest part of the world’s population (more than 60%) - even more, because peculiarities of Asian patients’ hair and scalp make this contingent the hardest for Hair Restoration Surgery.
We are sincerely glad to hear about success of D. Pathomvanich and K. Imagawa. Experience of famous Asian hair restoration surgeons is very important for our clinic, because the greater part of our foreign patients is from South Korea. It also makes us glad to know that Akaki Tsilosani’s method of donor harvesting is mostly close to D. Pathomvanich’s Open Donor Technique and donor closure method. Hair implanting method of TALIZI is very familiar to K. Imagawa’s technique using small surgical instruments and original depth limiters. Although, we are very interested in other surgeons’ methods which are described in textbook – for example, J. Wong’s technique of creating some coronal recipient sites at once.
