The head of clinic “Talizi” Akaki Tsilosani visited hair grafting French Clinic Challengehair on Mauritius island at the end of January 2010. He was invited there to conduct demonstrative operations with the method of follicular unit extraction (FUE).
Mauritius Island is situated in the Indian Ocean and is one of the elite resorts in the south hemisphere. The most of the tourists on the island are from France (the island once used to be the colony of France), that’s why French people are the majority of the patients at French hair grafting clinic there.
French clinic on Mauritius Challengehair has been operating for 10 years (
www.calvitie.net). The clinic employs very experienced and big staff (15 surgical assistants), uses stereo-microscopic technique of graft dissection and is currently considered to be one of the world’s best hair grafting centers. The cost of hair transplant surgery compared to the European prices is 40% less here which ensures stabile work load. Until now the clinic was specializing in follicular unit strip surgery (FUSS) and did not know the technique of follicular unit extraction (FUE). That’s why the leadership of the clinic decided to invite Dr. Akaki Tsilosani to conduct demonstrative operation of follicular unit extraction and train French staff to work with this method.

Discussion between Dr. Akaki Tsilosani and Dr. Artur Movsesyan
|
Follicular unit extraction is a less invasive method of hair grafting, during which the donor material is obtained in the form of individual follicular units. The main advantage of this technology is that there is no trace of surgery in the form of linear scar left in the occipital area. The leadership of French clinic on Mauritius for long time wanted to implement this method at their clinic and was looking for an experienced partner. The first contact between the French clinic and clinic “Talizi” occurred in 2008 in Rome at the symposium of International Society for Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS). Chief surgeon of the French clinic Arthur Movsesian and the head of clinic “Talizi” Akaki Tsilosani were among the delegates of the symposium. The acquaintance grew into warm, friendly relations at other symposiums held in Montreal and Amsterdam which basically influenced the choice for the Georgian experienced hair transplant surgeon.

Director of the French Clinic on Mauritius Mr. Gerard Guidi and Dr. Akaki Tsilosani after surgery

Akaki Tsilosani conducted 3 megasessions of follicular unit extraction transplanting 1000-1500 grafts. He also demonstrated his own method of follicular unit extraction, the so called “method of six hands” which helps conduct the operation faster (1000 grafts per 3 hours). The director of the French clinic Gerard Guide was so fascinated with this method that he took the chance and undertook hair transplant surgery.
It must be noted that the staff of the French clinic headed by Arthur Movsesian easily learned the main principles of follicular unit extraction and by now has independently conducted operation but of 230 grafts only. This is just the beginning. “Talizi” wishes success to its colleagues from Mauritius.
